Phakama UK Benefit

October 2 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

PHAKAMA UK BENEFIT

MAD Leadership Foundation presents Phakama UK Benefit. A cultural showcase celebrating the potential South Africa holds.

PHAKAMA

The 2018 UK Benefit, reveals the establishment of the fundraising mantra and symbolism, that of Phakama. Phakama, originating from isiZulu, means Rise Up. The power of this word encompasses so much of what MAD Leadership Foundation aspires to, in both our scholars and that of our supporters. The chosen symbolism is the King Protea, being the national flower of South Africa. The King Protea adapts to survive wildfires by its thick underground stem, which contains many dormant buds; these will produce the new growth after the fire. The King Protea quite literally rises up even after it has been burnt down.

The combination of this iconography and powerful symbolic word together creates the movement for this event. Phakama UK Benefit stands for the strength and resilience our scholars possess in continually and consistently rising up and above any circumstances or hurdles that might inhibit their potential or diminish their dreams. It too stands for the challenge we place to our supporters, to rise up and take a stand for education and leadership development in South Africa. To rise up for our future leaders and to rise up and be the difference.
