FUNDRAISERS

Over the years, hundreds of supporters, friends and donors around the world have come together to help us raise an extraordinary amount of funds for education in South Africa.

SPORT

Sport can awaken hope, where there was previously only despair.

ATTEND AN EVENT

“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope, where there was previously only despair.”

These words were spoken by our Chairman, Francois Pienaar, and epitomise the hundreds of supporters, friends and donors around the world helping us raise an extraordinary amount of funds.

MAD2RUN

Mad2Run is a team of 12 individuals, who plan a 24-hour relay each year, to raise funds for MAD Leadership Foundation. They complete an extraordinary 1520 kilometers in total, made up of an average of 250km per day for seven days, culminating at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town. Their aim is to make a small difference to a few individuals – who will, in turn, make a big difference in their communities.

MAD2Run 2017 also included a Cape Town team of 12 runners and support staff, as well as eight cyclists taking part in MAD2Cycle. With 24 runners and eight cyclists completing the total distance together in 2017, their goal is to make even more of a difference in the coming years.

An incredible amount of R1.1 million was raised in 2017 for the MAD Leadership Foundation Scholarship Programme.

MAD2CYCLE

From the people that brought you MAD2Run – the next chapter in the adventure: MAD2Cycle.

In 2017, the MAD2Run team decided to gear up their annual journey and find ways of getting more passionate people on the road from JHB to Cape Town to support MAD Leadership Foundation. The decision was therefore made to trial the idea of a cycling peloton to accompany the MAD2Run 2017 team – just for fun! 8 cyclists excitedly took on this mental and physical challenge, of cycling the entire 1520 km journey from JHB to Cape Town in just seven days. And so MAD2Cycle has come bounding into existence!

MAD2Cycle 2018 will be the first official year of this unique cycle tour. This journey is unlike any other cycle tour in that it is 50% on the road and 50% off the road, requiring both a road and mountain bike. With each day comes a new terrain; and each day the peloton will ride between 140 km and 250 km in the quest to reach Cape Town in just seven days.

Although the purpose, route and accommodation are all the same as the MAD2Run team, the journey for MAD2Cycle is far more challenging. A necessary skill level is required to embark on this journey and as such entries for MAD2Cycle 2018 (only) will be done on a nomination basis.

RUN WITH MAD LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION

From the Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon  to the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon , MAD Leadership Foundation running is a growing area and we need you to lead the way for education!

CYCLE WITH MAD LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION

Since 2003, when MAD Leadership Foundation approached the Cape Town Cycle Tour  organisers and proposed that they create a special peloton for MAD Leadership Foundation, our goal has always been to grow this fundraising initiative with cyclists who would pledge to use the 110 km cycle tour to raise funds for MAD Leadership Foundation. Over the years, we have grown from 15 to 550 cyclists, with a total of almost 2000 cyclists riding for a purpose.

GOLF WITH MAD LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION

Annually, MAD Leadership Foundation hosts golf days at some of the world’s most prestigious golf clubs in South Africa, as well as in the USA and UK. Each year, we are overwhelmed by the support and generosity we receive from those who are dedicated to contributing towards education in South Africa. We are deeply grateful to all our dedicated players, partners, sponsors and donors for the auction items provided for each golf day. Thank you for pledging to make a difference.

SUPPORT A FUNDRAISER

We are extremely thankful for the admirable support of the following individuals, who are as passionate as we are about developing leaders in South Africa through education. These individuals started fundraising initiatives independently of MAD Leadership Foundation, giving up their personal time to raise funds for what we do. It is because of individuals such as these that we can continue to raise sustainable funds and awareness for MAD Leadership Foundation through innovative means.

CHEFS WHO SHARE

In September 2013, Chefs who Share – the ART of Giving was launched in aid of youth development. It is an evening of glamour, culinary artistry and a fine art auction. MAD Leadership Foundation was chosen to be one of the beneficiaries of the substantial proceeds raised by this event. Created by Opulent Living Experiences and presented by Mercedes-Benz, the black-tie gala draws together 14 award-winning South African chefs, as well as seven top sommeliers, to create a food-and-wine pairing experience par excellence.

Chefs who Share also supports children in Cape Town’s challenged communities, providing fresh produce for healthier meals through the Veggie Box initiative . For R1 000 per box, you can provide children with healthy meals and education on nutrition. Boxes can be bought throughout the year, with all proceeds going to a charity supporting children in need.

ISPS HANDA ART OF POLO INVITATIONAL

Inspired by Japanese philanthropist Dr Handa’s three loves – art, music and polo, the ISPS Handa Art of Polo Invitational was the first of its kind in Africa. This black-tie sunset polo event was held at SA’s premier polo venue, Val De Vie Estate, on Saturday 22nd April 2017. Bringing together leaders in business, sports and the arts, the inaugural ISPS Handa Art of Polo Invitational was a networking celebration.

MAD Leadership Foundation’s art auction completed the art component of this prestigious event. Five sensational pieces from Lionel Smit, John Vusi Mfupi, Mbongeni Buthelezi and Adriaan Diedericks were available on live auction at the event with an additional fifteen pieces on silent auction. This collaboration could not have been between two more like-minded entities.

Proceeds of both the live and silent auctions contributed towards funding the scholarships provided by MAD Leadership Foundation.
