Primary Objective

A person-centred approach is integral to the Scholar Coordinator role in order to provide comprehensive support to a group of high school scholars and tertiary students. By maintaining regular communication with scholars, identifying potential needs and challenges, and linking them with opportunities for personal development, the Scholar Coordinator plays an important part in helping scholars reach their full potential.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support to several scholars through regular contact, virtual and in-person.
  • Keep accurate written records of all scholar and scholar-related meetings, communications and interventions in accordance with the organisation’s requirements.
  • Apply initiative within work procedures in the delivery of scholar support to meet the needs of both scholars and program requirements.
  • Build strong connections with scholars and other stakeholders to facilitate effective scholar support.
  • Regularly liaise with external stakeholders to provide efficient support and enhance opportunities and support for scholars.
  • Actively participate in team-based activities to contribute ideas around the development of the program and its practices.
  • Management of all administrative matters pertaining to the scholars including, but not limited to: payments, travel arrangements and arranging for interventions.
  • Monitoring and reporting on scholars’ academic, social and personal development.
  • Coordination and implementation of academic & psychosocial support services where necessary.
  • Assisting the team in planning, organising and attending functions or events for our scholars.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in Education.
  • At least two years of related experience in working with young people between the ages of 13 and 23 is required.
  • Demonstrated experiences supporting young people to achieve academic success and enhance personal development and mental health.

Desirable:

  • Significant experience in case management.

Requirements

  • Ability to adapt and perform duties as required by changing program needs.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Intermediate skills in using Microsoft products.
  • Ability to relate to young people.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to utilise a high level of interpersonal skills, including empathy, compassion sensitivity, diplomacy and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds and to respond sensitively and appropriately to people in a variety of situations.
  • Cultural competence, to understand and value clients’ unique perspectives.
