Francois Pienaar runs the Cape Town Marathon with MAD2Run

The 17th of September 2017 will see our Founding Chairman Francois Pienaar, together with Graeme Smith (former Proteas Captain), run the full 42.2km Sanlam Cape Town Marathon for the 2018 MAD2Run team, in support of Make A Difference Leadership Foundation.

The goal is to raise R5 million for Make A Difference Leadership Foundation, so that we can further identify, support and comprehensively develop scholars with academic and leadership potential into future leaders for South Africa. Francois Pienaar will be running for MAD2Run 2018 – a team of extraordinary individuals who plan a 24-hour relay each year, to raise funds for Make A Difference Leadership Foundation. They complete a remarkable 1520 kilometres in total, made up of an average of 250km per day for seven days, culminating at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town

On Saturday, 25 March, we hosted our second successful Valley Flair Art Auction at Leopard’s Leap Wine Family Vineyards, in partnership with Lizamore & Associates Gallery. It was a beautiful evening of fundraising, wining and dining, with great entertainment by Loki Rothman and a live art performance by Lioda Conrad Fine Art. We would like to thank all of our guests, especially our auction bidders who helped us raise an incredible amount of money for our future leaders. A special thank you to our artists for creating and donating exceptional work for our auction and to Ariella Kuper from Clear Asset, for volunteering as MAD Leadership Foundation’s Auctioneer for over a decade. Thanks to our media partners: A Gorman Photography and Marc Wyllie, our auction brochure partners: RSA Litho and Papercor Holdings and to Rialheim for the amazing entrance deco and thank you gifts for our guests. See you next year! Pictures available here.

From scholar to lawyer – Awonke was admitted as an attorney at the South African High Court on Friday, 3 March 2017. Awonke originated from Lamberts Bay and attended the Cape Academy where he was introduced to MAD Leadership Foundation. Awonke then attained his law degree from Stellenbosch University and did his articles as a Candidate Attorney at Catto Neethling Wiid Inc. We are extremely proud of his achievements, and look forward to watching him grow in his career.

Joel is the MAD Leadership Foundation 2017 Art Patron and worked with three of our scholars: Mariana, Adam and Gugu, to create a passionate and artistic expression. Joel found perspective through his collaboration with the MAD Leadership Foundation scholars, “the scholars showed such amazing creativity in making this magnificent lion, they had to think out of the box and go beyond their comfort zones. Each of them was so strong in their convictions about adding to the final work of art and each made a significant contribution to this amazing piece of art. It’s an intriguing process creating an abstract where you can see an image in it and the scholars rose to the occasion.”

The artwork is themed Imagination, as both Joel and the scholars found inspiration in each other’s worlds. MAD Leadership Foundation has partnered with Mervyn Gers Ceramics, an internationally acclaimed ceramicist, to create a bespoke range of hand-made ceramic plates, based on the artwork created through this collaboration.
